Is it just me, or is American Idol getting sadder these days? I suppose that as each contestant stays longer and then departs, that it becomes a bit more bittersweet to say goodbye. It was obvious to me that the judges felt like Danny Gokey should have been left to contend with Adam Lambert alone next week. If you’ve been reading or listening to my blogs over the past several weeks, you know already that I completely disagree. I’ve been rooting for Kris Allen all along. I think what really irritates me more than anything is the fact that the judges, namely Simon, keep indirectly overstating that Adam deserves to be the winner. I know they’re trying to influence the voting results and perhaps they’ve accomplished this throughout the process more or less. But, as it gets down to the wire, will their overwhelming partiality to Adam gain him the win? I guess we’ll know next week.
Danny Gokey
Like I stated a minute ago, I think we’re all a bit sad to see Danny get voted off, but we all knew that someone would have to leave. Honestly, though, I don’t feel a bit sorry for Danny, mainly because he’s overwhelmingly proven himself as a formidable new recording artist on the scene. He has a huge following and a unique sound that I believe will take him far in his singing career. Did he deserve to win over Kris Allen last night or Adam Lambert, for that matter? In my opinion, Kris’ version of Heartless blew the other two away, but I would have loved to see Danny stay and Adam leave this week, but we all pretty much knew that Adam would stay. The judges have drooled over him enough to ensure his longevity in the competition. Danny’s song – “Dance Little Sister” – I didn’t care for. I think his performance was pretty good, but I think it was a poor song choice and I think it hurt his chances of staying until next week. His rendition of “You Are So Beautiful” started out a bit shaky to me, but overall was pretty good. Honestly, his performance of the song the second time, as his farewell, was much better than the first.
Kris Allen

Ok, so you already know, I was thrilled to see Kris move into the top two this week! I think the guy has an excellent voice, an excellent attitude and is amazingly talented. As a musician myself, I know how difficult it is to sing well AND play an instrument – not just guitar, but also piano, which Kris did this week. Kris Allen has constantly brought vocal prowess, flawless playing and excellence to all he has done on American Idol. I believe he deserves to win – yes, even above Adam Lambert. I will agree with Kara’s criticism of his first song “Apologize”, although she was the one that chose it for him. I think he tried too much to be like the original artist, which is never something these contestants should do, unless they can actually do it better. Just take a look at Lil Rounds, if you still remember her. But, Kris’ second song, “Heartless” was amazing. I’m not all that familiar with the song, but he had me hanging on every word from his acapella beginning of the song. I thought it was riveting and definitely jettisoned him past Gokey and Lambert as far as I’m concerned. Awesome job Kris!
Adam Lambert
As a friend of mine said to me yesterday, “Adam just needs to go”. I agree. I don’t mean to sound cruel, but I’ve really grown weary of his screaming and wailing during every song and watching his tongue hang out when he hits high notes. No, I’m not into that type of singing, but I think Randy was right when he said that Adam is a rocker. He really is, mainly because he can’t seem to sing a song without making it sound like something off of an Iron Maiden album. It’s just not my thing. I think the fact that he doesn’t restrain himself enough might actually keep him from winning, but I could certainly be wrong. His rendition of “One” last night started out great. I kept thinking as he started, “now just keep it soft and under control”. No sooner had that thought crossed my mind that he started with his wailing. He lost me at that point. As for “Crying”, well, it was good, but still more of the same. There’s no doubt that Adam Lambert is here to stay, whether he wins American Idol or not.
At this point, I believe it’s anybody’s game. I’m just thrilled that my favorite singer is one of the final contenders.
