Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai say goodbye on American Idol - www.RecordingWiz.com uses Mixcraft for easy home studio recording, voiceovers, music CD, podcasts

Well, this week, American Idol left me feeling a bit melancholy because of Anoop’s departure. For whatever reason, probably a combination of his humility and amazing voice, I’ve grown pretty fond of Anoop. It doesn’t hurt much either that he goes to school in Chapel Hill, NC – just a few miles down the road from me. Unfortunately, Anoop Desai’s performance of “Dim All the Lights” on Tuesday night was not his best to date. Although most of it was pretty good, the ending was a bit pitchy – unusual for Anoop’s typical performance. His farewell performance was back to his usual standard, sounding dead on with his vocals, emotion and timbre. From his own mouth, he admitted that he could have done better on Tuesday night. I’m sorry he didn’t too, but I think we all knew that he was hard pressed to move past Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey for a final victory. At this stage of the game, those with the least amount of votes have to go. I hate seeing Anoop go, but I certainly expect and hope to hear more from him in the future. I’ll definitely be downloading his first album when it arrives.

As for Lil Rounds, I think everyone knew it was only a matter of time. Not to be critical, but she probably should have gone before some of the other castaways over the past few weeks. I’m still amazed that she lasted this long, although her final performance of “I’m Every Woman” last night was probably the best we’ve heard from her lately. For her sake, it’s a shame she didn’t perform that well on Tuesday. At least she went out with a bang. I suspect we’ll be hearing more from Lil too. I just hope she finds her vocal niche soon. I think once she does, she has the potential to skyrocket as a singer.

Danny Gokey

Danny Gokey gave a solid performance of “September”. I’d agree with the judges that he was spot on with his pitch. It’s becoming evident to me that Danny’s got a sound unlike any other – someone that I can easily imagine on the radio. Still, I doubt he’ll be the one to win American Idol this year, but he’s hanging tough. I wasn’t crazy about his arrangement, but his performance shined.

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert brought a unique rendition of “If I Can’t Have You”. I thought it was good, but it was difficult for me to follow it, given the catchy tune of Yvonne Elliman’s original version. I personally think it would have been better without the screamy rafter high singing at times, but overall, it was a good performance. It’s obvious that Adam has an amazingly versatile vocal instrument. I think his genious will be more apparent when he learns to use it a little less ostentatiously, but again, that’s just my personal opinion.

Allison Iraheta

Allison Iraheta performed yet another Donna Summer hit “Hot Stuff”. This turned out to be the night for Donna Summer songs. They should have had her there as a guest on Wednesday night. Anyway, Allison’s rendition of the song was good and pretty dead on vocally from what I could tell, but it didn’t shine above any of the others. And, once again, that’s what being an American Idol is all about. So, it’s not surprising that she ended up in the bottom three this week. Of course, that really doesn’t say a whole lot, given that there’s not that many contestants left.

Matt Giraud

Matt Giraud’s version of “Stayin Alive” was pretty good, although not too unlike the Bee Gee’s original, which made it a bit mediocre. But, obviously the public thought enough of his performance to keep him out of the bottom three for the week. Still, I think the save last week from the judges influenced people’s opinion of him. He’s definitely talented, but I think he will most likely get the ax the next go ’round, unless he really knocks it out of the park with his next performance.

Kris Allen

I’m really trying to be objective with my opinions about all of the singers, but I have to give Kris Allen best performance again this week. Or, maybe I should rephrase that. I enjoyed Kris’ performance more than the others (just like last week). His rendition of Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money” was awesome. I thought his arrangement was unique – using the guitar and percussion to add his own unique flair. I’ll be shocked if Kris doesn’t end up being at least one of the last two standing in this competition.

The heat is on. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next week with only five left.

I totally agree with you about Kris Allen. I think he is very talented. I like the way he makes the songs he sings his own. Almost every performance has been awesome. I believe Matt and Allison will be the next to go and the last three standing will be Danny, Adam and Kris. It seems that Danny and Adam are probably the favorites to go on to the finale, but I hope Kris gets in there.

I think you’re right about the last three, but who knows which of the three – Adam, Kris or Danny will be the winner. It seems like Adam Lambert is kind of a sure thing, but the others keep turning up the heat. Allison is good, but I just doubt she’s going to win. I think Matt is really good too, but he seems a bit off of his game and unsure of himself. It kind of shows and I think the public picks up on that.
