If there’s any one thing you can say about Michael Sarver, it’s that he seems to a genuinely nice guy. He just looks like one of those guys that would be a great, long-time friend. He’s not too shabby a singer either, although it became evident over the course of the last few weeks that he doesn’t have quite the vocal flexibility that some others (in the top 10) on American Idol have. It’s a shame really, being that he does seem to be such a nice guy with a great voice.
As for his performances Wednesday and Thursday nights, well, they both seemed pretty identical to me. My opinion is that the song was just a bit too vocally demanding for Michael, but overall, I think he did pretty well. The biggest problem was that it really paled in comparison to the other American Idol male contestants, namely Adam Lambert, Anoop Desai, Kris Allen and Matt Giraud. It was obvious that the judges weren’t too impressed either with Sarver’s rendition of “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by the Temptations. I even think that Smoky Robinson was trying to be polite in his comments about Michael after his practice session.
As always, it boils down to this – America is narrowing it down to the best singers in the Idol competition. Just as I’d hate anything I wrote in my last Idol blog to take away from Alexis Grace and her departure, I don’t want this blog to take away from Michael Sarver or his vocal ability. The guy has a great voice, and I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t spend the rest of his life using his God-given talent to bless lots of people, now on a much larger scale, given his recent opportunity on American Idol. I’m thrilled that Michael Sarver had the opportunity on American Idol, especially to have made it to the top 10! There are very few of us singers out here who would have been able to pull that one off. Kudos to you Michael and best wishes in your future singing endeavors!
